Ryerson University | Research Assistant – 3DOF Haptic Device | May 2021 – Feb 2022, Sept 2022 – May 2023
Engineering design
- Rapidly designed a comprehensive 400+ component assembly in SolidWorks in under a month with several innovative features
- Applied engineering principles to create a robust, manufacturable, high-functioning device at a low cost, a substantial improvement over the past iteration
- Effectively collaborated in the manufacture and assembly of a prototype in the span of a month employing various manufacturing technologies such as 3D printing, CNC milling, forming, and turning
- Designed and manufactured the electrical power/control system involving LiPo batteries, BLDC motors and controllers, a battery management system, and various sensors and control electronics
Software – C++ C#
- Implemented closed-loop field-oriented control for BLDC motors for force feedback in a haptic device and performed PI tuning to obtain ideal behaviour
- Calculated physics to generate force feedback, friction, weight, and inertia simulation
- Determined forward and inverse kinematics to translate calculated virtual force vectors into natural forces on the user
- Applied various signal processing techniques and filters to eliminate undesired behaviour
- Created a virtual environment and user interface to accompany the device
